Policy Plan of the Foundation

Deployment of Resources

  • Organizing international workshops and conferences with key players in wildlife management, credit financing, accounting, and other relevant knowledge fields.
  • Setting up a platform where wildlife managers and experts can meet and communicate.
  • Developing performance parameters focused on finance, health assessments, reproductive success, mortality, population sizes, and the successful functioning of wildlife in their habitats.
  • Developing an adequate data management and analysis system to facilitate the exchange of intervention results between experts and wildlife managers.
  • Developing and implementing field pilots in Asia and Africa, where new methods and technologies for wildlife management are applied and tested. This includes establishing an independent monitoring, verification, and reporting system for intervention outcomes.
  • Initiating and facilitating scaling-up plans if applied interventions prove effective.
  • Identifying global training institutes in wildlife management where innovative methods of wildlife management can be incorporated into their curricula.
  • Exploring alternatives to philanthropic funding for wildlife conservation, including how these could potentially be structured.

Execution of Activities

Phase 1: Project Preparation (Year 1)

In the first phase, three pilot projects and counterpart organizations responsible for execution will be identified in Indonesia, Nepal, and South Africa. Each pilot will propose interventions to protect and expand wildlife populations in specific areas, thereby increasing biodiversity. Measurable performance metrics will be established for the proposed interventions, and independent knowledge institutes will be identified to handle monitoring.

For each pilot, a detailed project proposal, including a multi-year budget, will be developed in close collaboration with the counterpart organizations.

Additionally, in this phase, knowledge institutes or consultancy firms will be identified to develop proposals for a reporting system for pilot project results, an alternative financing system (wildlife or biodiversity credits), and platforms for communication between wildlife managers and experts, as well as for data management.

Phase 2: Implementation of Pilots and System Development (Years 2 and 3)

In the second phase, the three pilots will be implemented by the respective local counterpart organizations, including the setup of a monitoring system. These pilots will be supervised by Wildlife Futures.

During this phase, Wildlife Futures will also commission the development of the reporting system, alternative financing system(s), and platforms for communication and data management.

Phase 3: Wrap-up and Way Forward (Year 4)

Each pilot will be assessed for potential scaling-up, using the developed systems (monitoring, reporting, verification, financing, education, and communication). Where scaling-up is deemed feasible, concrete proposals will be developed, including the identification of parties who could implement this scaling-up. The goal is for this scaling-up to be funded through wildlife or biodiversity credits.
